INT1 – PURCHASING

Q: Can I use the INT1 independently without the RMU1?

No. The INT1 must be connected to an RMU1 with an interface cable to operate properly. The RMU1 that the INT1 is connected to must be fourth generation (G4) or newer and it must be an RMU1-I or RMU1-G. The RMU1 needs to be enabled for use with the INT1 to report into CorView. The fourth generation RMU1-I and RMU1-G have a small 4 pin connector on the bottom left corner of the unit.

Q: Can the INT1 be used with an old RMU1?

The INT1 needs to be connected to the fourth generation (G4) RMU1 and it must be an RMU1-I or RMU1-G. The fourth generation RMU1-I and RMU1-G have a small 4 pin connector on the bottom left corner of the unit. Older generations of the RMU1s (G1, G2, G3) are not compatible with the INT1. The RMU1 must also be enabled for the use with the INT1.

Q: Can I buy the RMU1, then add the INT1 later?

Yes, you can! There are few things you must ensure when you add the INT1 to an RMU1.

  1. The RMU1 that is going to be used with the INT1 is fourth generation or newer and is an RMU1-I or RMU1-G. There is a small 4 pin connector next to the green connector.
  2. The RMU1 that is going to be used with the INT1 needs to be enabled for use with the INT1. This can be done at the time of purchase or by calling or emailing Mobiltex Service.
  3. Ensure you have the INT1 to RMU1 interface cable. (Mobiltex P/N W1640034801)
  4. Replace the RMU1 batteries when you add the INT1. (4 AA Energizer L91 Lithium batteries)

INT1 – OPERATION

Q: What is the battery life of the INT1?

Typically, 5 years based on readings every 12 hours and 2 weeks of interruption per year.

Q: Can I interrupt the INT1 locally?

Yes, you can set an interruption schedule locally with the RMU programmer. It requires GPS time lock to start interruption which may take up 12.5min to acquire. (See also Q. How do I get the INT1 to interrupt locally?)

Q: Can I interrupt the INT1 through CorView?

Yes, you can but messages can take up to 12 hours to propagate. The RMU1 G4 will only check for commands every 12 hours, so an interruption schedule should be sent at least a day in advance.

Q: Can the INT1 interrupt an anode and get an instant off reading?

Yes. The INT1 will only make an Instant Disconnect DC Potential measurement on P/S1. You need to program it as measurement type BOND 45 to get an instant disconnect DC potential on P/S1. Ensure the current doesn’t exceed +/-10ADC, 7AAC.

Q: Which state will the INT relay be in when it fails, with the bond closed or bond open?

It can be either open or closed. The internal relay of the INT1 is a latching relay and will latch to the last state before the microprocessor turns off.

Q: How can I merge the RMU1 and the INT1 data in CorView? One has -0 after the ESN.

You cannot merge the data. They are treated as two separate sites. The ESN with -0 at the end is for the INT1, and non -0 ESN is for the RMU1. You can name the corView sites with “- INT1” or “- RMU1” at the end to differentiate them.

INT1 - INSTALLATION

Q: How much current can the INT1 measure?

It can measure up to +/-10ADC, 7AAC in the High Range.

Q: Does the INT1 require an external shunt like the RMU1?

No. The INT1 doesn’t require an external shunt as it has an internal shunt to measure bond current. Ensure the current doesn’t exceed +/-10ADC, 7AAC.

Q: What wire size can I use for the INT1?

The INT1 will accept 12 – 22 AWG wires.

Q: Do I need to install a reference cell with the INT1?

Only if you are adding P/S measurements with the INT1.

Q: I'm not using the RMU1 to measure anything. Do I have to put jumpers between the connections on the INT and the green connector on the RMU1?

No. You only need to connect the INT1 and the RMU1 with the black interface cable. You can also disable unused measurement slots in the RMU1 using the RMU1 Configuration editor.

Q: Does the INT1 need a clear view of the sky for data communications?

No. The INT utilizes the RMU1 for transmission of the data. The RMU1 does need an unobstructed view of the sky.

Q. Are the measurement connections on the INT1 mirrored on the RMU1?

Measurement points are not interconnected through black interface cable and are separate between the RMU1 and INT1. For example, P/S1 measurement from the INT1 does not show up as P/S1 on the RMU1. The RMU1 adds extra channels on top of what the INT1 is measuring.

Q. Can I still use the RMU1 for other measurements when the INT1 is hooked up to a bond?

Yes. The measurements from the INT1 will report into a CorView site separate from the RMU1 CorView site. The INT1 can be identified in CorView as the ESN will end with -0. The RMU1 can take other measurements (e.g., CP33-Single Coupon) in addition to what the INT1 is measuring.

Q. How many P/S readings can you monitor with the INT1?

The INT1 can take up to 2 P/S measurements, but only P/S1 on the INT1 will have instant disconnect readings with the measurement type BOND45.

Q. Do I have to wire between the RMU1 and the INT1?

You must connect the RMU1 and the INT1 with the black 4 pin interface cable. You don’t have to duplicate the measurement wires on the RMU1 from the INT1. The RMU1 and INT operate as independent measurement points. For example, if you are just measuring a bond current with the INT1, you only need to connect the measurement wires to the INT1. The readings will only appear in the data slot for the INT1 and not for the RMU1.

Q. Do you have an external enclosure that can hold both the RMU1 and INT1?

Yes. The RMU1+INT1 NEMA4 enclosure has the part number: A03700RMU12.

Q. My structure only has 1 wire going to it, but the drawing shows 2 wires. How do I wire the INT1?

You can just put a loop between the terminals. Loop Pipe1 to Bond+ and loop Pipe2 to Bond- as shown below. Note that the bond currents will introduce a bit of error with this setup. For more precise measurements, test wires should be brought up from the structure in addition to the bond wires.

Q. What are the hole dimensions for mounting the INT1?

Mounting holes are located at 4 corners of the INT1. Dimensions in the drawings are in inches.

INT1 – TROUBLESHOOTING ISSUES

Q. Why isn't my INT1 interrupting?

There are few possible causes for the INT1 to not interrupt:

  • Ensure the INT1 is connected to the appropriate RMU1 with the interface cable.
  • Ensure the unit has acquired GPS Time Lock. It could take up to 12.5 min to get GPS Time Lock.
  • Ensure the interruption schedule is set. Time entry is in 24-hour format, e.g., 2:00PM should be entered 14:00.
  • If you are sending an interruption command from CorView, it could take up to 12 hours for the unit to receive the command. The RMU1 G4 will check for commands only every 12 hours. Interruption should be scheduled at least a day in advance when using corView.
  • Ensure the schedule is set correctly for the selected time zone.

Q. The INT1 is reading the bond current incorrectly?

There are few possible causes for the INT1 to read incorrect current on the bond:

  • Ensure the BOND+ and BOND- terminals are not connected in parallel to an external shunt. The INT1 has an internal shunt for bond current measurement, and it should be in series with the external shunt if any.
  • Ensure that the scaling factor is set to 1 for the bond current measurement slots in the RMU1 Configuration Editor.
  • Ensure the range is selected correctly in the RMU1 Configuration Editor.

Q. I don’t see the control icon for the INT1 in CorView. How do I send command to the INT1 in CorView?

Commands should be sent through the RMU1 that is attached to the INT1. Look for the same ESN as the INT1 but doesn’t contain “-0” in CorView.

Q. Why can’t I send another interruption schedule command to the INT1/RMU1 in CorView?

To send another command to the INT1 in CorView, the existing command needs to finish being processed first. You may have to wait up to 12 hours for the first command sent to the INT1/RMU1 to be processed. Then you will be able to send the next command.

Q. The INT1 seems to stay on after disconnecting from the RMU1. Does it turn off automatically?

The INT1 is designed to go to sleep 30 minutes after being disconnected from the RMU1. To shut down the INT1 after disconnecting it from the RMU1, hold a magnet just above the wiring label for 10 seconds until the LCD goes out.
