Remote Monitoring for Rectifiers, Test Points and Bonds
Gain deep insight into the performance of your CP system with the continuous remote monitoring capabilities of the CorTalk RMU2. Simple to install and configure, the CorTalk RMU2 is an accessible and robust system engineered for continuous remote monitoring of rectifiers, bonds and test points. The device is available in satellite or cellular communication configurations and can operate autonomously for 10+ years using standard lithium AA batteries that are easily replaced in the field. This battery-powered solution can be used to monitor remote sites such as test points and bonds, in addition to conventional rectifiers, TEG and solar applications. The RMU2 has been designed with integral high-energy surge suppression and provides unprecedented lightning immunity due to no connections to electrical ground.
The RMU2 monitors and transmits nine channels of information – four high-accuracy, galvanically isolated, AC/DC capable analog inputs are typically used to monitor volts, amps and/or 4-20mA signals from external equipment. An integral non-contact AC Line presence sensor can be used to determine if AC line voltage is present. An integral magnetic sensor can be used as a rectifier door sensor or tamper detection alarm. The RMU2 measures temperature and internal battery voltage and a user-accessible switch can be configured to record site visit information. The RMU2 is available with an optional “Measurement Recorder” which will capture analog readings every 6 hours with multiple memory storage options available.
Measurement data is wirelessly transmitted to the CorView Cloud Platform. CorView manages all field data communications, maintains three years of measurement data, sends alarm exception and system performance emails, and provides password-protected remote customer access. CorView is a highly secure environment that can be accessed using any web-enabled device as well as native iOS and Android apps. Measurement data is presented in an intuitive tabular format or graphical mapping display that color-codes abnormal measurements or site conditions for quick user interpretation. CorView can also provide near real-time email notifications of abnormal measurements and alarm conditions.
Features | Benefits |
---|---|
Fast, simple installation | The compact, weather-proof RMU2 is designed for the measurement terminal to easily fit inside a rectifier cabinet or a NEMA4 enclosure with an external antenna that has been tested and proven in the most extreme applications – the system can typically be installed in under an hour. |
Designed for high accuracy and resilience | External analog channels are high impedance and galvanically isolated with multistage lightning protection. AC rejection filters utilized for DC measurements to provide maximum accuracy. Several voltage ranges to accommodate a wide range of sensors (current shunts, reference cells, and direct voltage measurement) |
Intelligently engineered with additional functionality | RMU2 platform has an AC Line Presence Sensor available to determine voltage is present, a magnetic sensor on enclosure doors that will alarm when unauthorized tampering occurs, an optional Measurement Recorder to capture analog readings, and a 4-20mA mode to receive signals from external equipment. |
Multiple pre-defined configurations | The RMU2 can be utilized at test points and bond monitoring applications, in addition to the more conventional rectifier, TEG and solar applications. AC mitigation systems can also be monitored with an optional AC current transformer. |
Intuitive controls and configurations | The RMU2 comes standard with an external “TEST” button and dual colour LEDs for manual controls. It can be easily programmed with our standard Programming Interface and a PC and can also be completed with a compatible iOS or Android-based mobile device and our available Bluetooth Interface. |
Global communication capabilities | Available with cellular or satellite communication capability, the RMU2 can transmit data from virtually any location. This helps improve the quality and frequency of data collection, while reducing the need for workers to undertake long, potentially dangerous trips, to remote sites. |
Smart readings and transmissions | To minimize airtime costs, the RMU2 stores four sets of periodic readings and then transmits all of those readings via four available factory-configured satellite or cellular data transmission plans. Irrespective of data plans, the RMU2 takes measurements every 6 hours, the device will immediately initiate a transmission when an alarm condition is detected. Alarms can be suppressed during interruption. |
Built to withstand the toughest conditions | Lightning, surge and overvoltage protection and broad operating temperature range (-40° to +60°C [-40° to +140°F]). |
Long-life battery | User-replaceable standard lithium AA batteries provide 10+ years of monitoring and data transmission and the RMU2 is designed with integral high-energy surge suppression and provides unprecedented lightning immunity due to no connections to electrical ground. |

Frequently asked questions
The status LED on the RMU2 base goes solid green and then turns off. Is this OK?
Yes, it is OK. During normal operation, the status LED will illuminate solid green for about 8 to 40 seconds and then turn off. The RMU2 goes into a sleep state to conserve battery consumption after taking measurements and making a transmission to CorView.
What is the difference between an RMU2-SI, RMU2-S and RMU2-G antenna?
The RMU2-SI is the Iridium satellite communications variant of the RMU2. The RMU2-S utilizes the Globalstar satellite network. The RMU2-G is the cellular RMU2 antenna.
Which cellular network does the RMU2-G antenna utilize?
AT&T in the USA, Rogers in Canada. Cellular network coverage maps can be used to ascertain if your sites have cellular coverage.
