Press the PROFILE “SEL” button next to the LCD on the underside of the uGI1.

uGI1 OPERATION – INPUT POWER

Q: How do I power the uGI1?

Attach the SRL1 AC/DC Smart Relay, SRL2 DC Smart Relay or the External Relay Interface cable to the uGI1, and connect the two yellow wires to a suitable voltage source. The acceptable input voltage range is 8VDC to 52VDC or 6VAC to 36VAC.

Q: What is the acceptable input voltage range for powering the uGI1?

The acceptable input voltage range is: 8VDC to 52VDC or 6VAC to 36VAC.

Q: Can I power my uGI1 from the rectifier taps?

Yes. Use your multi-meter to find two taps where the voltage is between 6VAC and 36VAC. Be mindful that unloaded rectifier transformers may output a significantly higher voltage than when it is loaded (i.e. the voltage will go up during the interruption off cycle).

Q: Can I power my uGI1 from the DC output of the rectifier?

No. Avoid powering the uGI1 from the DC side of the rectifier as large transients may occur when the DC current flow is interrupted. Look for a suitable power source such as a battery, wall adapter, rectifier taps, or transformer.

Q: What battery do you suggest for powering the uGI1?

Our recommendation is a 12V 20Ahr sealed Lead Acid Battery. Depending on battery condition and charge, this should power the uGI1 with an SRL1 relay for 10-14 days.

uGI1 OPERATION – GPS

Q: How long does it take for the uGI1 to get GPS time lock?

It can take up to 12.5 minutes to acquire GPS time lock. Once the uGI1 gets time lock, a padlock symbol appears at the top left corner of the LCD. Ensure the uGI1 has clear view of the sky with the CorTalk logo is facing up toward the sky.

Q: How often does the uGI1 sync with GPS time?

The uGI1 re-synchronizes the interruption cycle at the top of every minute and should reacquire GPS time lock every half hour. The interruption cycle time selected should be set to a number that divides evenly into 60 seconds. An example being 4 seconds on and 2 seconds off, making a cycle time of 6 seconds.

Q: Does the “OK” light turn on when the uGI1 gets time lock?

The “OK” light will be lit when the following conditions are met:

  • GPS time & position lock
  • Sufficient GPS signal level
  • Proper supply voltage to the uGI1
  • AC signal power present (if the AC Sync option is selected)

Q: What is the difference between the “Daily Repeat With Start/Stop Schedule” and “Continuous With Start/Stop Schedule” interruption modes?

Daily Repeat With Start/Stop Schedule
This mode will start and stop interruption daily at the configured start and stop time for duration of the configured profile dates.

Continuous With Start/Stop Schedule
This mode will interrupt continuously from the start date and time to the stop date and time.

Q: What relay type should I program for the SRL?

You don’t have to program the relay type for the SRL as the uGI will automatically set the correct relay type when it detects that an SRL is attached.

Q: What is “Smart Relay Current Threshold” in the uGI1 Configuration Editor?

The SRL1 or SRL2 relays measure the current passing through them during the on phase of interruption. If the measured current during the on phase is below the programmed threshold, an entry is made in the event logger of the uGI1 and it will illuminate the orange “LO” LED. For uGI1-S (advanced) units, an alarm exception message will be transmitted to CorView to indicate the low current alarm.

Q: How do I turn on the satellite transceiver in my Advanced uGI1-S?

The satellite transceiver can be enabled or disabled by holding down the “SEL” button beside the LCD on the uGI1 for longer than 10s. It can also be enabled by checking the “Enable Transceiver” box in the PC based uGI1 Configuration Editor. The satellite signal strength indicator on the LCD can be used to confirm that satellite communications are enabled.
